All the events and services that we offer are totally dependent on grants, sponsorship and donations by Federal Government, Provincial Government and Municipal Government grants. We are also grateful to receive funding from NWR, Air Products, Nutrien, Fort Sask Rotary Club, Twice but Nice, Canadian Red Cross and local businesses.

Let’s Talk English. Coffee and Conversation.

Join us for free social programs to get to know your community and build your network!

The Fort Saskatchewan Multicultural Association offers you the opportunity to practice your English conversation skills with Let’s Talk English Coffee Chat. This will provide newcomers who has ESL with an opportunity to enhance and improve their English conversation skills, in an informal, and friendly and relaxed environment. These Talk English conversation sessions will support and assist participants in building very fundamental communication skills they need in order to succeed in their new community, whether it is school, work or social groups. Participants will learn to engage in conversations that will assist them to gain a better understanding of how to engage in conversation for their everyday need. Participants will have the opportunity to also practice and improve their pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary.

We offer drop-ins, and sessions occurs regularly each week with each session exploring a different topic for the participants to get engaged in.

These sessions promise to assist in understanding cultural differences at the same time to build relationships with colleagues and supervisors.
This will allow our newcomers to have that greater sense of belonging and included in their new community.

Let’s enjoy chatting together as we drink coffee/ tea as we talk about everything about Canada and their home country.

Learn idioms and slang to “spice up” your vocabulary. Slide into the weekend with games, activities, and fun. Practice speaking English in-person with volunteers and peers

Youth-Group

Youth Leadership Program.

Our youths’ intent is to build bridges between cultures in our community. The youth program is developed to foster welcoming and inclusion as part of the main focus.

They engage in planned activities to explore their interests and develop their skillset together in a harmonious environment.

These include sports, music, cooking classes, environmental programs, STEM, leadership, mentorship training, job readiness, financial literacy, public speaking and many more.

The youth group meets biweekly and is aimed for kids 6 and above.

Women Empowerment.

The Women’s Support Group is a program for women and by women. We recognize that beyond the wife and the mother, there is a woman who needs attention too.

Our women’s support group is a project created to support our women as important members of our community. It is a great opportunity to meet with other women, be social, make friends and learn about other cultures. It is a great chance to volunteer your time, make new friends, share cultures and have fun.

The group meets once a month for empowerment programs focused on confidence, independence and employability.

Multicultural Education

Multicultural Education.

This program collaborates with schools, non-profit organizations and groups in the community to present and demonstrate elements of diverse cultures to children, youth and adults. It is designed to grow awareness and appreciation of the diverse cultures residing in Fort Saskatchewan. This program focuses on the celebration on elements of cultures, aiming to improve appreciation, engagement, and cohesiveness among the cultural groups residing in the community.

Indigenous Culture Education.

This program supports learning and exploring Indigenous culture and history. We do through our curriculum teachings, Cree language instructors and Elders. We also recognize that by teaching indigenous culture and education we will also be recognizing the important role of our Indigenous peoples and the role they have in shaping our country.

Events, lessons and teachings are held monthly and by demand. This program is great for all ages!

Health-and-Wellness

Health and Wellness.

A community that is healthy in mind and body, is a community that is strong. We are committed to assist our community members in maintaining and also improving their health and wellness by our health and fitness programs. We offer yoga, cultural dances and workshops, zumba, cultural fitness such as: afrofit, soca fit and bollyfit. We also support mental health by hosting life coaching sessions and programming for youths and adults.

Financial Literacy.

Our Financial Literacy program teaches our on various topics, from basic budgets to how to save on tax. This program is also offered to youth and newcomers. Learn how to save, earn, invest and use money wisely. Taught by professionals in the field and facilitators, this program is great for all ages and can be requested.

Financial-Literacy

Newcomers Welcoming & Settlement.

Over the years we have been supporting newcomers in their settlement and integration to the community. We help them navigate themselves as they become familiar with our community, bridge gaps, and connect them to available programs. Within our settlement and integration support, we offer ESL, youth homework help, job search support and volunteer opportunities to name a few.

Community Helpers Program.

The Community Helpers Program is a suicide prevention program that is targeted for youth and adults ages 12 and above. It can be delivered in both school and community settings. Our Community Helpers are trained by approved AHS trainers. Developed by AHS, they are trained to deal with a variety of topics including effective communication, self-care, coping with stress, knowing when to refer people to professional services, handling crisis situations, and suicide awareness. It is NOT a crisis service support.
